A Life Changed in an Instant

In October of 2022, Hailey's life changed dramatically when a torn meniscus in her left knee — which required surgical repair — led to a diagnosis of Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS).

CRPS is known to be one of the most excruciating conditions a person can endure, often ranking higher on the McGill Pain Index than childbirth or amputation. Those with CRPS frequently describe their pain as feeling like being burned alive from the inside out.

Despite their efforts with physical therapy, treatments in Idaho and Oregon, supplements, and pain medications, Hailey's pain has persisted and worsened. It has now spread from her foot and calf to her hip and both arms, with a daily pain level of 7–8 on the pain scale. She endures burning, aching, and shooting pain, heightened sensitivity to touch and temperature, swelling, and discoloration.

This constant discomfort severely impacts her ability to sleep, leaving her with only a few hours of rest each night.

"It literally is like you are burning from the inside out. And she goes through it daily. Every. Single. Day."

More Than Her Diagnosis

Before CRPS, Hailey was vibrantly, wholly alive. She still is — just fighting harder than most of us can imagine.

Barista & Worker

Hailey loved serving her community, crafting coffee with care and showing up with a warm smile every day.

Soccer Player

A passionate and active athlete who loved the energy of the field, teamwork, and the joy of movement.

Hiker & Adventurer

She thrived outdoors — hiking trails, exploring nature, and embracing life with her whole body and spirit.

Ministry & Faith

Hailey has a heart for ministry and missions — her faith and love for others have never wavered through this trial.

She can now manage only a few hours of office work per week and very limited outings — a stark contrast to her previously vibrant routine. Yet through it all, Hailey finds comfort in God's promises.

"But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness."

— Lamentations 3:21–23

CRPS Diagnosis

A torn meniscus surgery led to a devastating diagnosis of Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. Hailey's world changed overnight.

Community Rallies

The Steffensen family shared Hailey's story. The community responded with extraordinary generosity — raising approximately $70,000 to fund her treatment at the Spero Clinic in Arkansas.

2024

Treatment at the Spero Clinic

Hailey received several months of specialized neurological rehabilitation under Dr. Katinka van der Merwe. Real progress was made. Specific conditions contributing to her CRPS were identified.

Today

Funds Ran Out. Next Steps Are Clear.

Treatment had to pause when funds were exhausted. However, Hailey's doctor has outlined a clear path forward — including addressing an appendectomy metal clip that may be contributing to her condition, and an 8-week intensive treatment protocol. The goal: $80,000 to cover one full year of recovery.

What Hailey Needs to Heal

Hailey's doctor at the Spero Clinic has recommended delaying surgery until bloodwork confirms no active infection and inflammation has decreased — to minimize the risk of worsening her CRPS. In the meantime, the following 8-week treatment protocol is ready to begin.

In addition to these treatments, Hailey requires daily vitamins and minerals, and will need surgery to remove the appendectomy metal clip that may be fueling her condition.

Fundraising Goal $80,000

Every dollar goes directly to Hailey's treatment, housing near the clinic, and travel.
